A few weeks ago, I had the rare opportunity to stay home for a few hours one morning.  And while I was getting household chores done, I turned on my television and listened to one of the morning news talk shows.  There was a segment on the TODAY Show that discussed the importance of truly accepting the appearance of the female body after pregnancy.  Three mothers were featured – and each of them held up a photograph of their respective tummy since the birth of their child.  The overall discussion was really wonderful – respecting the incredible ability of a female body to carry and nourish life. There was a lot of emphasis on self-acceptance of one’s body even if there is excess tummy skin, belly button distortion, stretch marks, and rectus diastasis (abdominal separations) that oftentimes are resistant to improvement with diet and exercise.  It was this emphasis that inspired me to share my opinion on body image acceptance after having taken care of many women who are concerned about these post-pregnancy tummy and breast changes.

I really feel that it is important that women feel comfortable and confident in their skin.

Surgery can correct the post pregnancy appearance of the abdomen and can help women achieve body image acceptance with tummy tuck and breast enhancement procedures at my Austin plastic surgery practice. For a lot of women, a mommy makeover helps them accomplish this and for others it doesn’t. Knowing your options and feeling your best is the key!
