Among men getting Botulinum Toxin Type A (Botox® Cosmetic, Dysport®), there has been nearly a 314% increase from 2000 – 2012, with approximately 390,000 men receiving Botox®/Dysport® treatments in 2012, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgery.  This is not just a national trend—we have seen a similar increase in Botox users at our Austin plastic surgery practice.  Why the increase?  The pressure to look young while job hunting may be one reason why men are choosing to get Botox® treatments. Another reason that men choose Botox® is that their significant other is tired of them always looking like he is frowning or angry when that is not actually the case at all!  Also, the fact that this treatment has very little downtime is of significant importance to men.  Patients can be in and out of the office in 15-20 minutes with minimal to no signs of injection at all.

At my Austin plastic surgery practice, Botox® has been a great way to treat frown lines, horizontal forehead lines, and crow's feet. When used in combination with soft tissue fillers like Juvederm®, a good facial cleanser, and Clarisonic®, the quality of the skin, including texture and pore size, can be dramatically improved—again, with little to no downtime.

One other less well-known treatment area is the armpits in patients who have excessive sweating, also known as hyperhidrosis. Treatments with Botox® usually cost between $500 and $1000, and sweating may stop for up to 6 months after treatment. This is one of our most popular procedures, especially in the summer with the Central Texas heat!
