Among men getting Botox® Cosmetic or Dysport®, there has been nearly a 258% increase from 2000-2010, with approximately 336,834 men receiving Botox®/Dysport® treatments in 2010, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgery. This is not just a national trend—we have seen a similar increase at our plastic surgery center.  Why the increase? The pressure to look young while job hunting may be one reason. Also, the fact that this treatment has very little downtime is of significant importance to men.  Patients can be in and out of the office in 15-20 minutes with minimal to no signs of injection at all.  At my Austin plastic surgery practice, Botox® has been a great way to treat frown lines, horizontal forehead lines, and crowfeet. When used in combination with chemical peels and quality affordable skin care- the quality of the skin, including texture & pore size, can be dramatically improved—again with little to no downtime.

In addition to Botox, I have seen men increasingly asking for fillers to restore facial volume in the lower eyelid region, laser hair removal for chest, back, neck, and even in the lower beard region for men who battle with chronic ingrown hair issues. Liposuction can be great to treat areas that are resistant to diet and exercise- like the chin region, the “love handles” area, or to reduce the amount of breast fat around the pectoral, or chest area. I wrote a blog about the treatment of Gynecomastia or “Moobs” back in June.

Plastic surgery is not just for women—the statistics demonstrate this, as do the trends over the last decade. If you are interested in finding out more about any of the services we offer, call my office at (737) 787-7338.
