For those of us who have had a BBL (Broad Band Light) Forever Young™ treatment, it’s safe to say we may never go back to a traditional IPL (photofacial) therapy because the clinical studies and results for the BBL technology are unmatched. (Sciton’s BBL Forever Young has had over 10 years of data to support that it is the most advanced non-ablative light therapy laser for skin rejuvenation.)
BBL therapy reverses sun damage, stimulates collagen production, reverses hyperpigmentation, and corrects rosacea. In 2021, Sciton® released an upgrade to traditional BBL called BBL HERO® , which we acquired at The Piazza Center in Austin, TX to ensure that we have the most effective skincare treatments that yield exceptional results for our patients.
Laser Light Therapy for Skin Treatment
Let’s first define these light therapies.
What is IPL?
IPL stands for “Intense Pulsed Light” and was the first light therapy for the skin that improved skin health. This was first introduced as a medical device for treating pigmentation concerns and vascular lesions on the skin back in 1994.
What is traditional BBL?
BBL stands for “BroadBand Light.” Similar to IPL, it uses light energy to address skin concerns, but is more powerful than IPL. BBL was created by Sciton® Medical & Aesthetic Laser Technologies. BBL laser skin resurfacing technology has been proven to stimulate youth activation genes and reverse changes in skin tone and texture related to sun damage.
What is BBL HERO®?
BBL HERO® (High Energy Rapid Output™) is revolutionary technology that upgrades traditional BBL, delivering more power to create a more effective laser skin resurfacing treatment than traditional BBL. HERO is designed to be used on large areas of the chest and body to shorten treatment time and improve results.
What is BBL+?
BBL+ is a treatment that utilizes the BBL HERO® technology to deliver the most advanced non-ablative skin restoration treatments to the face and neck. Like BBL HERO, BBL+ is designed to deliver effective results on smaller treatment areas.
What Makes BBL HERO Unique?
BBL HERO technology treatments are much faster than traditional BBL. For example, a BBL+facial treatment takes half the time of traditional BBL.
Additionally, treatment duration times for arms and legs are reduced by 75% compared to traditional BBL treatments. BBL HERO takes only 5 minutes to treat each limb, removing unwanted pigmentation caused by sun damage and stimulating collagen production in the skin to improve skin’s appearance and restore a youthful glow.
Further, BBL HERO has three times the peak power and twice the cooling effect of traditional BBL, which means laser skin resurfacing treatments with BBL HERO and BBL+ are more effective and more comfortable, making this a popular skin treatment among Austin residents seeking to undo the damage caused by the Texas sun.
BBL HERO FAQs
How do I know if BBL HERO is right for me?
Most everyone can have BBL. In fact, it’s one of the only aesthetic treatments offered that is able to fix a variety of skin conditions whether they are epidermal (texture) or dermal (pigment).
Ideal candidates for BBL+ or BBL HERO are those that have unwanted brown or red spots or pigmentation on the surface of their skin, often caused by years of sun damage.
BBL HERO is the best option for patients who have plateaued with the results of traditional BBL and for patients who desire to reverse signs of premature aging and sun damage on their chest, arms, legs, and back. BBL HERO is designed to treat large portions of the skin at one time.
BBL+ is best for patients who have fine lines and wrinkles, brown spots, pigmentation, or freckles on their face and neck. This treatment is designed to target smaller areas of the skin.
How much downtime is required with BBL HERO treatments?
Since the BBL HERO puts out more energy than BBL, there is minimal to no downtime with BBL HERO treatments. Because of this characteristic, BBL+ and BBL HERO are some of The Piazza Center’s most popular skin resurfacing treatments.
What can I expect after a BBL HERO treatment?
After undergoing a BBL HERO or BBL+ treatment, you can expect to have some redness and darkening of pigment in the treated area immediately after treatment. The redness should subside within an hour or two, but the pigmented lesions, however, will continue to darken then disappear in the following 7-14 days.
Many patients report that in 3 to 4 weeks after treatment, they notice an overall improvement in skin clarity, tone, and texture.
How many BBL HERO treatments will I need?
We recommend a minimum of 4 traditional BBL treatments in a 12-month period (1 every 3 months) or a series of 2 to 3 BBL HERO treatments (1 every 4 months) to reverse sun damage and boost collagen and elastin production in the skin to ensure excellent skin health.
For best results, this treatment series should be repeated annually.
