Case Details
This 49-year-old Austin, Texas female came to see Dr. Piazza to discuss breast reduction surgery options. She felt that the weight and size of her breasts contributed to neck, shoulder and upper back discomfort. She found it very uncomfortable to do the things she loved; horseback riding and gardening were no longer enjoyable. After countless physical therapy sessions and many painful days at her desk job she made an appointment for a breast reduction consultation in Austin.
Plastic surgery techniques can be used to reduce the size of the breasts. During her initial consultation, Dr. Piazza explained the different breast reduction techniques and explained how he prefers short scar breast reduction surgery to reduce the presence of unsightly scars on the breasts. Dr. Piazza also explained that her symptoms of discomfort would be relieved by reducing the size of her breasts if her breasts were truly the cause of these symptoms. He explained that his goal was to effectively reduce the volume of the breast while creating a pleasing shape.
Dr. Piazza met with her the day before her surgery at his office at Seton Southwest. Both Dr. Piazza and his registered nurse, Hayley, explained what each medication would be used for after surgery. Hayley carefully explained the post-operative instructions so that she would have realistic expectations of her recovery course.
In surgery, Dr. Piazza removed approximately 600 grams of skin, fat and breast tissue from each breast, while sculpting her breasts to create a pleasing shape, while still leaving her with breasts appropriate for her figure. He also reduced the size of her areolas and centered her nipples and areolas over her breast mound.
After surgery, she recovered well and was back to work 7 days. She is happy with the size and shape of her breasts and has increased her level of physical fitness. She is back to performing normal activities without symptoms from her breasts and is happy to announce she is enjoying work, pain free!
