Case 16
Case Details
This 46-year-old active gentleman from Austin, Texas found Austin plastic surgeon Dr. Rocco Piazza to discuss the appearance of his chest. He first noticed an increase in the size of his breasts since puberty. Despite diet and exercise, his chest continued to bother him with his left chest having firmness behind the nipple and areola. He also noticed that his chest has seemed more "fatty" as he has aged. Also, his side view bothered him the most, as he felt that he looked like he had breasts protruding, particularly when wearing t-shirts. This patient's goal was to have hidden incisions so he could continue to have his shirt off while at the beach or boating.
In consultation, Dr. Piazza explained that he had gynecomastia or male breast tissue. For males suffering from gynecomastia, a male breast reduction can be performed to remove excess fat or tissue in the chest area to create a more masculine and smooth chest contour. Dr. Piazza performs this procedure by using a small incision at the lower portion of the areola. He then uses a combination of direct removal of breast tissue and liposuction to sculpt the chest. The key is creating a smooth contour that matches the patient’s body frame.
His procedure was performed at a fully accredited surgical facility as an outpatient procedure. He stopped taking pain medication one day after surgery and returned to work in three days with a small lifting restriction. He is very pleased with his experience and happy with the outcome.
