Case 180
Case Details
This 26-year-old male patient visited our Austin practice to talk about gynecomastia surgery, also called male breast reduction. He had started to notice growth in his chest at puberty, around age 14. Over the next couple of years, he saw more tissue overdevelopment, and it was difficult for him being a young adolescent to accept his body when he knew this was not normal appearance for a male. He worked with various doctors to treat male breasts with hormones but ended up with poor results and no improvement in the appearance of his chest. He knew that surgical intervention would be required.
He decided to do some research and found out that he was not alone. Many males struggle with this condition, known as gynecomastia, or "man boobs." He decided to have a consultation with Dr. Piazza and his care coordinator, Kristin. He learned he was a great candidate for gynecomastia surgery. He underwent an excision surgery with power-assisted liposuction and contouring of the chest. Dr. Piazza was able to excise, or cut away, the glandular tissue and remove fatty tissue with liposuction for optimal results. Dr. Piazza was able to give this young man a flatter, firmer, and better-contoured chest.
It's been seven months since his procedure, and things have changed tremendously for this young man. He no longer feels uncomfortable and feels totally confident with his more masculine chest.
