What Is Avéli?

One of the primary causes of cellulite is septa—fibrous bands that pull down on the skin and tether it to structures just below the skin’s surface. Avéli works to treat cellulite by severing the septa, the fibrous bands in the skin that cause the “cottage cheese” appearance associated with cellulite. The Avéli device is inserted under the skin of the buttocks and thighs through small incisions and is used to sever the septa. This results in a smoother, more toned appearance with just one treatment.

Avéli only requires one treatment! There’s no need to return for additional treatments after your initial procedure.

How Is an Avéli Treatment Performed?

Avéli is a quick treatment that takes about 45 to 50 minutes to complete to complete in our clinic. The total patient experience for this procedure takes about 1 ½ hours in our office. Dr. Piazza combines Avéli with body contouring surgery procedures like liposuction of the thighs and flanks and tummy tuck procedures to give you smooth, shapely buttocks to improve your results.

Before starting the Avéli treatment, Dr. Piazza administers a local anesthetic in the treatment area to numb and prep your skin. Once your skin is prepped, the handheld device is inserted into the deep layers of the skin through small incisions. Your provider then slides the Avéli device under the skin, adjusting the depth as needed, using the lighted handpiece to guide the way.

As the Avéli is moved under the skin, it hooks the bands of septa, then the built-in blade severs the band, releasing the “dimple” in the skin. Avéli precisely targets the septa, only severing the bands that cause cellulite in the buttocks and thighs.

When Will I See Results?

The effects of Avéli are immediate, but you can expect some swelling and bruising after the treatment, so you will not see results until you are fully healed. It takes about 24 to 48 hours for the initial swelling to subside, then your results will start to appear in time as your skin heals. You can expect to start to see results within 1 month of treatment, with full results appearing after 3 months.

Avéli™, Profound®, and QWO®: How Do They Compare?

There are so many options out there to help address cellulite on the buttocks and thighs. How can you choose?

Every patient is different and there’s no one size fits all solution when it comes to cellulite, so we recommend you speak with a trained professional before trying any cellulite treatment. At The Piazza Center, our goal is to assess your needs then create a customized treatment plan designed to help you get rid of unwanted cellulite through one or more treatments we offer to help you get the best possible results.

The following chart shows how Avéli, Profound, and QWO compare when it comes to treating cellulite. Each of the following statements are supported by the products’ clinical trials and independent studies.

Avéli™     Profound®     QWO®
What It Does Aveli is a minimally-invasive procedure performed with local anesthesia by a trained provider. It addresses cellulite from the inside-out.     Profound uses RF energy combined with microneedling to treat cellulite on the thighs and buttocks.     QWO is a prescription medicine used to treat moderate to severe cellulite in the buttocks of adult women.
How It Treats Cellulite     It is a handheld device inserted into small incisions in the skin to target and release the septa bands that cause cellulite dimples.     Combines microneedles with RF energy to penetrate the deep layers of skin, reshaping the tissue as new collagen is formed.     It is injected into the fibrous (septa) bands that cause “dimples” associated with cellulite to break them down.
How Many Treatments Needed?     One in-office visit is needed for visible improvement.      Most patients need 1-2 treatments and see full results after 12 months.     In clinical studies, women received 3 treatments of QWO, 21 days apart.
How Long Does a Procedure Take?     An Avéli treatment takes about 60 minutes to complete.       A Profound treatment for cellulite can take 2.5–3 hours to complete.      QWO injections can take as little as 10 minutes (if no anesthesia is used).
How Soon Will I See Results?      Results appear after swelling and bruising subside (approx. 1 month).     Results are visible within a few weeks of treatment with full results appearing after several months.     Visible results in 10 weeks.
What is the Expected Downtime?     Some swelling and bruising at the insertion spot that usually lasts 24 – 48 hours.      Some swelling and tenderness of the treated area that subsides within a few days.      No post-treatment downtime, but you may experience soreness and swelling for a few days.
Indications Avéli is indicated for the long-term reduction in the appearance of cellulite in the buttocks and thigh areas of adult females.     Profound uses RF microneedling to target the deeper layers of skin to coagulate adipose tissue and remodel cellulite.      QWO is the first and only FDA-approved injectable for moderate to severe cellulite in the buttocks of adult women.

Is There Any Downtime Required After an Avéli Treatment?

There is no downtime associated with Avéli cellulite treatment, but you can expect to feel sore and have some swelling and bruising for a few days after treatment. You may experience some fluid leaking from the areas where the device was inserted into the skin, but this should end within the first 24 to 48 hours following treatment.

Dr. Piazza recommends being cautious when resuming normal exercise after an Avéli treatment. You can immediately resume your normal exercise regimen, including walking on a treadmill, using the stair stepper machine, lifting weights, doing squats, or other methodical exercises. Dr. Piazza does not recommend doing high-intensity training, jogging, or running for 2-3 weeks after treatment, though.

To improve results, we recommend wearing Spanx or yoga pants to help aid compression to reduce swelling as you recover. You can expect some bruising and swelling, but these will subside over a couple of weeks. As your body continues to heal, you will see smoother skin with fewer dimples.

Can Avéli be Combined with Other Treatments?

Yes, Avéli works well in combination with other minimally invasive body contouring treatments to help reshape and improve the contour of the buttocks and thighs.

Dr. Piazza recommends combining Avéli with EMSCULPT NEO for buttock and thigh enhancement. This combination works to remove the cellulite dimples, enhance the lean muscle mass, and reduce unwanted fat on your buttocks, and quads, and hamstrings to smooth and shape your buttocks and thighs. He also recommends adding CoolSculpting® to your treatment to reduce pockets of unwanted fat on the inner and outer thighs and on the inner knees, resulting in a total reshaping of the thighs and buttocks.

If you have mild to moderate skin laxity on the backs and sides of your thighs or on your buttocks, we recommend combining Avéli with Profound® RF Dermal to tighten your skin for optimal results.

To enhance your results at home, we recommend using ALASTIN Skincare TransFORM Body Treatment with TriHex Technology® to help tighten and tone skin after your treatment.
